Increasing Patient Participation in their Care- Teaching Project

My classmate and I developed and presented this project to teach patients the importance of being active participants in their care. The project highlighted how strategies like SMART goals, the teach‑back method, open discussion, and family involvement can improve understanding, safety, and independence.

Evidence‑Based Practice Project — Nurse‑Led Interventions for Adolescent Obesity

This project examined the nurse’s role in preventing obesity among adolescents in the school setting. Our review of the literature showed that nurse‑led interventions can improve qualitative outcomes such as self‑esteem, healthier food choices, and increased family awareness, even when short‑term studies do not yet show significant BMI changes. The project highlighted how school nurses can integrate clinical assessment, health education, and ongoing monitoring to support lasting lifestyle changes for students and their families. It also emphasized the need for longer‑term research, stronger policy and environmental supports, and continued evaluation of family involvement and cost‑effectiveness.

Honor Society Project — Heart Attack Awareness: “Strong Hearts Start Here!”

As part of our Honor Society community health initiative, my group and I developed and presented this project to educate the public about heart attack symptoms, prevention, and emergency response. The project highlighted key warning signs, lifestyle changes that reduce risk, and the essential steps to take during a cardiac emergency. Through interactive activities and evidence‑based teaching materials, we aimed to increase awareness, promote early recognition, and support healthier heart habits within the community.
